Abstract The measurement models for both nationalism and patriotism originally developed by Blank Schmidt are broadly established. Despite their widespread usage in Germany beyond, concerns have been voiced about the operationalisation of these nation-related concepts. However, previous scholarship little attention has devoted to systematically reviewing models’ validity. This paper’s major goal is contribute substantially research on operationalising national attitudes thoroughly examining how measured valid predominant really are. By running a confirmatory factor analysis, three based ISSP data 2003 replicated empirically reviewed. conducting single-country tested German case, including evaluation invariance Eastern Western Germany. Although selected yield satisfying results, paper identifies considerable shortcomings with regard way approached. It calls reconceptualising prevailing concept pride thus challenges operationalisation.
